Monica Fukala

Coach’s Thoughts:  When Kevin told me he was bringing his wife in to try a class, I was so excited to finally meet the woman who puts up with his constant barking. And of course, Monica turned out to be every bit as wonderful as expected, patient, kind, and an incredible mother and wife. But also a pit bull on the floor right alongside her husband. I’m so glad you’ve finally made your way to Core City. The effort and intention you bring every time you walk through the door is inspiring to both new and seasoned athletes and I know you’ll continue to take on every challenge with grace and a smile. Congratulations - so well deserved!

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

    I started in Memphis, TN with Iron Tribe Fitness which is an organization that branched off of CrossFit. I started that around 2019. I took a break from CrossFit when I got pregnant with Evie in 2021 and didn’t start back till Kevin talked me back into it this year in August 2025. Kevin talks me into doing a lot of stuff.

  2. Favorite Movement?

    Anything with the barbell. I love lifting. Makes me feel like a bad a$$.

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

    Just go to a class and try it! The coaches are amazing and will help modify movements for you. 

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

    The community and the coaches. The coaches have been amazing in working with me as I’ve overcome some obstacles in my fitness journey like having to rehab my abs from two c sections back to back and a fear of box jumps. The coaches have stood by me and cheered me on along with the community.

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

    I’m a nurse practitioner in urgent and primary care. If I’m not working or working out I’m typically chasing our two and three year old kids around (a workout of its own). I also love reading! I’m a nerd and love reading books on counseling and neuroscience.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

    Pull ups. I’ve never been able to get them so that’s my next goal.
