Core City CrossFit Kids is a mission-driven non profit

We are using the sport of fitness to teach kids the value of hard work, discipline, self control and how to do hard things all in an inviting community atmosphere. We’re on a mission to build mentally and physically stronger kids.

We are 501c3 non-profit organization and our work is made possible through donations. You can help us impact the youth of Detroit.

Backpack Drive

Core City CrossFit Kids is hosting a backpack and school supply drive for our neighbors George Crockett Academy (grades K-8th) in Detroit. We are collecting new backpacks and all the supplies needed to start the school year. 

Our Classes

Our classes are a unique type of strength and conditioning program where we utilize three different fitness modalities: safe and age appropriate weight lifting, gymnastics and cardiovascular endurance. We combine all three into a fun, effective and educational workout. These workouts are designed to help kids get better at their sport. If your kids are currently not playing sports, CrossFit can become their sport.

Grades 6-9 | Monday’s & Wednesday’s | 4:15PM - 5:15PM

Since starting our CrossFit kids program in June of 2021, we have introduced hundreds of kids to the sport of CrossFit and Olympic lifting. We have seen kids try new things and accomplish goals they never imagined.

The Team

  • Helen Taylor

    Helen is a CrossFit masters athlete and CrossFit level-2 coach. She has been coaching CrossFit for over 7 years. Helen started her fitness journey over 27 years ago in the martial arts. She holds a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has spent over 24 years coaching and training both kids and adults in the martial arts. Her certifications include CrossFit l-2, CrossFit gymnastics, CrossFit judges course, American Council of exercise-personal trainer, American Council Of Exercise-sports and exercise nutrition and Power Monkey Fitness-gymnastics.

  • Alana Kempton

    Alana has being doing CrossFit for two years. Prior to joining Core City she did kickboxing for two years. Alana’s passion for CrossFit combined with her love of working with kids makes her a perfect fit for our kids’ program. Outside of the gym she is a medical records paralegal for a Detroit law firm.
