October 2025 Athlete of the Month

Siobhan Barrett

Coach’s Thoughts:  If you’ve ever walked into the morning classes, you’ve probably been greeted by Siobhan’s big smile before the first warm-up even starts. A mom of two, she juggles a busy schedule but still makes it a priority to carve out time for herself — and it shows in the work she puts in every day.  She brings a big laugh, a big personality, and some even bigger lifts to the floor. She’s eager to learn, coachable, and always ready to push herself a little further — all while lifting up the people around her with encouragement and positivity.

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I’ve been doing CrossFit on and off since 2011, I got started after a running injury from the San Francisco marathon (I was a marathon/distance runner and short sprint distance triathlete) lead me to find something new and I was living in Chico California where Robb Wolf had begun making functional fitness popular. They had an excellent gym and I got to work with a ton of amazing coaches while they were doing research for the book becoming a supple leopard with glen cordoza. It was a very fun time and a totally new way to look at fitness for me. I have taken a lot of breaks from it but always seem to come back to.

  2. Favorite Movement?

    Clean! It’s so fun.

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Just start! And also even though it seems like a competitive in the moment type workout it’s really most beneficial if you treat it as a long game lifestyle change.Creating a consistent routine that you can actually sustain is really important. There’s always something new to focus on and learn so don’t try and do it all at once, it’s overwhelming, pick something specific to focus on every few months or year. And you need rest!

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

It’s the best combination of coaches and community. I’ve worked out at a lot of crossfits Accross the country  and ccf has a variety of coaches with different expertise and backgrounds which helps so much when you’re learning to do things. And the community is just really inclusive and friendly while also being supportive during class.

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

I have two kids and we all play soccer (rec leagues), we bike a lot, j walk a lot, I work in economic development so I’m passionate about small businesses in Detroit, I read aLOT, I love being outside and camping, I also used to be a designer (lingerie and swimwear/womenswear) so I sew clothes and stuff if I catch a few minutes to do so.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

I have two - one is to figure out how to create a more sustainable schedule and get some classes in / and do workouts at home when I have my kids (single mom and when I have my kids it’s 100% of my time and very hard to figure out how to come in for classes with their schedules) - and I need to practice my double unders because I’ve literally never gotten better at these because I’ve never truly practiced them!
