July 2025 Athlete of the Month

Michael Keysaer

Coach’s Thoughts:  So pumped to see Mike getting the recognition he deserves! He’s been part of our community for a while now and is truly a coach’s dream. Always showing up ready to work, pushing his limits, learning new skills, lifting heavier, moving faster, and improving his technique. When he gets feedback, he takes it to heart and applies it right away. Members like Mike remind us why we do this - he’s living a full life outside the gym and using his time here to show up better for it. Huge congrats, Mike!

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in 2019 with Helen Taylor. Helen coached my kids in martial arts and I watched her grow as an athlete when she started coaching CrossFit. I have always enjoyed cardio fitness, but knew I needed more to keep myself healthy as I age. Helen continued to give me advice through COVID as I trained out of my garage and worked on form. I followed her to Core City Fitness in 2021 and never looked back. I love the inclusion and the dedication of the athletes at this gym.

  2. Favorite Movement?

    Rope Climbs and Pull-ups

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Anyone can do CrossFit. You need to scale to your own level and keep working at it. I struggled with a serious back injury for years before starting CrossFit. With a strong mind, I overcame my injuries and used CrossFit to rebuild myself. Fitness and strength aren't achieved over night. They’re earned over years of dedication.

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

It's an inclusive environment full of awesome athletes and great coaches!

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

I am a software engineer and manager at Ford. I have 3 kids. My oldest just graduated college and my youngest, high school. My family is everything. I did Murph this year with my oldest son Zak out of our garage. I spend my summers mountain biking and traveling to Higgins Lake.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

Learn double unders and muscle ups!
