April 2025 Athlete of the Month

Jacob Diaz

Coach’s Thoughts:

Jacob is an incredible asset to CCF! His impressive weightlifting strength, combined with his valuable insights on critical dental work, makes him an integral part of our community. You can always count on Jacob to motivate others in class while creating a fun and lighthearted atmosphere. We hope he chooses to stay here after completing dental school, and we believe this Athlete of the Month award might influence his decision. Congratulations, Jacob, on being named April’s Athlete of the Month at Core City CrossFit!

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2015. It all started when I was working at Reebok—being surrounded by the brand's deep connection to the CrossFit community really opened my eyes to what it was all about. I kept hearing incredible stories from athletes and everyday people whose lives were transformed by CrossFit, and their passion truly intrigued me. That curiosity led me to try my first class, and I was instantly hooked. Since then, it’s become a major part of my life. I love the challenge, the constant variety, and most of all, the sense of community that comes from working out alongside others who push and support each other.

  2. Favorite Movement?

My favorite movements in CrossFit are anything that involves a heavy barbell—cleans, deadlifts, front squats, and back squats are definitely at the top of my list.

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Don’t be afraid to start—everyone was a beginner at some point. CrossFit is all about community, and workouts can be scaled to any fitness level. Just show up, give it a shot, and you’ll be surprised at what you’re capable of.

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

Core City has been my home away from home for the past two years. I’ve had the chance to meet some of the best people and be part of an amazing workout community. Having that consistent support and outlet has made a big difference during the challenges of dental school.

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

When I’m not at Core City Fitness, I’m usually busy with dental school, traveling when I get the chance, or spending time with friends from school. Outside of fitness, one of my favorite hobbies is cooking—I enjoy trying out new recipes and experimenting in the kitchen as a way to unwind and get creative.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

Once I graduate from dental school in May, I’m excited to dedicate more time to running. My next big challenge is completing a half marathon, with the goal of running a full marathon not long after. I’m also looking forward to redoing the CrossFit Total and aiming for some new personal records there too.
