July 2023 Athlete of the Month

Kevin Fukala

Coach’s Thoughts:

Kevin has become a steady member of the morning crew. He is incredibly dedicated and disciplined to grind it out every morning while balancing his home life and new baby.  Kevin has a strong ethic and is focused on improving.  You can often see Kevin seeking guidance from the coaches and pushing the limits of his comfort zone to seek continual improvement.  Congrats to the morning Grand Piano on being named July 2023 Athlete of the Month.

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

About 7-8 years ago a group of my fellow work colleagues were in Orlando, Florida for a month-long work assignment. During that time we all pitched in to do CrossFit for the month. We loved it so much we came back home and joined a box!

  2. Favorite Movement?

    Snatch!!!!!

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Research your nearest boxes and visit them. Meet the head coach(s) and watch a class. Do they do good warm ups, do they explain form, are they down to earth, do they help people with scales etc. Do they encourage people during the wod? Do they have a spirit of encouragement throughout the gym? If not, find a different box!! But overall, sign up somewhere! Your body is worth it!

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

The COMP training and the hardworking fun atmosphere! I lost my sister this past month to a tragic motorcycle accident. And I was blown away by the texts and condolences I received! Also, CCF expressed their love to me through giving me a gift! I love CCF. It’s my extended family!

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

I’m a full time pastor on the Eastside of Detroit in 48214. I have an XL Bully (dog)  named Mack that I train. And I love spending time with my wife and kiddos!!! We have a newborn boy and an 18 month old baby girl!!!

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

I have battled shoulder issues which makes my HSPU game weak. My goal is to be able to rep out 10 unbroken strict HSPU!
